Upgrade to automated systems boosts Golden Circle’s future efficiency
CLIENT
Golden Circle is one of Australia’s most recognised food companies and a leading supplier of quality fruit, vegetable & juice products to Australian families.
OBJECTIVES
Golden Circle approached Wiley to replace their 50+ year old rotary cookers with a new state-of-the-art automated product handling and cooking system.
To facilitate the new system, Wiley was also required to perform some building alterations with new ceilings, extensions to the power switchboard, and a stormwater and sewerage drainage upgrade.
CHALLENGES
- Tight space constraints, large requirement of detailed design
- Timeline extremely tight and had to operate around client’s production schedule
- Securing overseas equipment contracts.
SOLUTIONS
Advice
- Specification for services and the ability of existing systems to manage the load of the new equipment, e.g. steam, cooling tower, power supply.
Design
- Detailed design on the layout of equipment to fit the existing building. In several areas the space requirements were tight enough that there was as little as 20mm clearance between existing beams and equipment
- Installation of conveyors, steam, condensate return (water and energy recovery), HV transformer upgrade, RMU upgrade, main switchboard upgrade, can handling system x 2, 6 bath retorts, infeed and outfeed conveyors.
Construction
- Management and construction of civil works and ceiling, alterations to existing building, and upgrade of stormwater and sewerage drainage.
RESULTS
Golden Circle have a new state-of-the-art automated product handling and cooking system that will effectively and efficiently replace the previous 50+ year old rotary cookers.
Previously these cookers could only handle can size, whereas the new equipment can handle a variety of can sizes and even other packaging materials such as plastic or glass bottles, sachets, and trays.
